Music = emotion

At least it is to me. I haven't had much of an ear for it since I left NOLA, but it was an integral part of my life before that. Music has brought me to tears since then (and that's nearly ten years now).

This piece brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. Always has and likely always will. It has a simplicity and beauty to it that is emotion distilled.

I still can't get that youtube embedded thingy to work for me. Please excuse the link.

BTW, the video is of his ash-scattering ceremony in Hawaii. He died of a heart attack at 38 due to chronic morbid obesity (he weighed 767 lbs at one point and it killed his brother at the same age as well). Even on a 6'2" frame, that's a lot of weight.

What a gentle, pure voice! I'm ashamed to admit that I'd not heard of him before. Thanks for sharing, J.

States side, it's been used in a number of commercials and TV shows. Most notably (for me) it was the song that Anthony Edwards' character on ER died listening to. I wasn't a huge ER fan, but the moment touched me and I can't think of a more beautiful song to release a soul to.

My wife thinks it's depressing, but I find it uplifting. I hope she remembers to play it at my funeral someday, along with I'll Fly Away and You Are My Sunshine as well as Scarborough Fair (which I used to sing to my son when he was little).

Different people respond emotionally to different kinds of music. That's one of the glories of this greatest of art forms.

His version of this song is really great and I would argue the best of the lot.

I also find it uplifting. It gets airplay on stations like margaritaville.

Great music, great voice.

For me, as shown earlier, the air that I breath.
Nilson, without you.
Foever autumn, justin hayward (and several others by him) devastating sadness.
Some of the works by Boston.

God, yes, some music has such a visceral effect. Just incredible.
