1967 - It's A Beautiful Day

A band formed in San Francisco in 1967, the "Summer of Love", also the year I graduated high school, legend has it that this Two Hit Wonder band lost a coin flip to Santana as the last band to fill the program at the Woodstock Festival (actually held in Bethel NY) in 1969.

I've owned a couple of copies of that record over the years. I am not as thrilled with it as a lot of people, but it's a reasonable representative of its time. I've seen it for sale at a price point that I thought was ridiculous.

Quicksilver Messenger Service another San Francisco band with their song perfectly evocative of that era, Fresh Air:

Another song released like the two previous ones, in 1969, that some consider the quintessential song of that era, by Crosby, Stills, Nasn, and Young, Wooden Ships:

One more time from 1969, from C, S, & N debut album, a song dedicated to Stephen Stills former girlfriend Judy Collins, Suite Judy Blue Eyes:

That was a great time to be alive!

At least it wasn't Joanie Phony. I know you're old enough to catch the reference.

Got it, as well as sharing the sentiment.

Interesting that by the times Al Capp introduced Joanie Phoanie in late 1966, she (Joan Baez) had already had at least three gold albums and was regularly selling out concert venues for more than five years. In his popular L'il Abner comic strip he fired one of the first shots in the culture wars by caricaturing possibly the original "limousine liberal."

Quote:
Phoanie loves them dirty Reds, the Viet Cong, and badmouthing capitalism while playing for $10,000 a show. She adopts Abner and Daisy Mae's son Honest Abe, and hires Abner and Daisy Mae as servants to take care of him. But when he and his folks proudly sing "My Country Tis of Thee," she un-adopts Abe, and kicks them all out.
