What I think would help boxing...
My pro boxing reforms:
1 - Condense the weight classes. There are just way too many! Heres the current crop: Listed in Kg/Lbs Straw weight - 48/105 Mini flyweight - 48/105 Junior flyweight - 49/108 Light flyweight - 49/108 Flyweight - 51/112 Junior Bantam - 52/115 Super flyweight - 52/115 Bantamweight - 54/118 Junior featherweight - 55/122 Super bantamweight - 55/122 Featherweight - 57 - 126 Junior lightweight - 59/130 Super featherweight - 59/130 Lightweight - 61/135 Junior welterweight - 65/140 Super lightweight - 65/140 Welterweight - 67/147 Junior middleweight - 70/154 Super welterweight - 70/154 Middleweight - 73/160 Super middleweight - 76/168 Light heavyweight - 79/175 Cruiserweight - 86/190 Heavyweight - 86+/190+ So, we take Straw weight through Flyweight and Combine them as 'Flyweight, up to 115 lbs.' Take Junior Bantam to Super Bantam and creat 'Bantamweight, 116-125 lbs' Take Featherweight to Lightweight and combine as 'Lightweight, 126-140 lbs' Take Welterweight and Middlewieght and combine as 'Middle weight, 141-155 lbs' Take Middle wight to Light Heavy Weight and combine as 'Light Heavyweight, 156-170 lbs' Take Cruiser weight and change to 'Cruiserweight, 170-190 lbs' And Heavyweight, 190 + Next sanction a Federal Boxing Commision with one belt, the alphabet soup and easy corruption has got to stop. There should be one belt per division, if a fighter changes divisions he forfeits his belt and the two top-ranked fighters fight for it within 2 months. I dont know what, but soemthing has to be done with judges...perhaps training, report cards like the NFL uses. They need to be graded and punished for bad showings. I know some of this may be viewed as extreme, IE too much weight in each division, but c'mon its goddamn boxing. Five pounds does not make or break a fighter if its close to hios 'natural' fight weight. If soemone dominates at 165, an d 165 is his true, natural weight, moving up or down 5 pounds wont take that much away from him. I truly believe that. Fighters arent heros for moving up five pounds to take on a challenger like they porttray themselves in the media.... Anyone agree disagree? I know boxing is sort of on the outs weith most, but I still think its a great sport. Especially the lower wieght classes that nobody cares about and therefore have less tampering.
