Crown Royal Cask No.16

I must admit that I would have likely never considered purchasing a full bottle of Crown Royal Cask No.16, given its elevated cost and standard bottling strength (40%ABV). But this fact was rendered meaningless by my brother who, facing the daunting task of purchasing whisky for someone already stocked to the rafters with Scotch, Irish and American libations, ended up scratching his head trying to choose a bottle he thought I might not have already tried or bought. Serendipity, as it happens, that he elected to nab the CR!

The CR Cask No.16 is a skillfully blended Canadian whisky that has been enhanced by finishing in Cognac casks. The French oak influence bestows the liquor with an added crispness and complexity. But it is still the intrinsic quality of the distillate itself that shines through. I'd have to say that the predominate flavour aspect I pick up on is an intense sensation of pears, both the flesh of the fruit and the skin. The overall impression is, as expected, of effortless smoothness and drinkability with an extended finish.
