Still another call for action

There is another bill this one in Congress sponsored by Ted Kennedy and Hanry Waxman AND Texas Senator John Cornyn. It is called "The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act". Basically it puts all tobacco under FDA. But it also says you cannot prohibit tobacco. Marlboro and Phillip Morris like it.

HOWEVER, according to cigar makers it could put them out of business. Here's why. The FDA could set nicotine levels of tobacco products. Not too difficult for a short fill cigar or cigarette that are made on machines turning out clones of each other. All the cigarette makers would have to do is test one cigarette every so often to be sure the nicotine levels are the same. (Short fill lets you mix the stuff.) Same for the drugstore mixed fill cigars. Just add more non tobacco filler.

For cigar makers, each cigar can vary based upon the leaves...and the crops from year to year. The testing would be onerous and impractical since premium cigars are made with all tobacco no filler. Let your Sentaors and Congressmen know not to put cigars under the FDA.
