Pouch tobaccos
I have read that they are usually inferior to tinned tobaccos. Is this normally the case or a fallacy?

The only stuff you find in pouches are the Traditional blends. PA, Carter Hall, etc.. Are these generally inferior to tinned tobaccos? I
dunno, some people really like them. Inconsistancy is a term mentioned regarding tradition blends sometimes. The big bags of tobacco you can buy at Walgreens probably are inferior to tinned tobaccos. Okay I'll commit. As a general rule tins are better than pouches. Excluded from this rule are bulk bags of otherwise tinned tobacco. Buy in bulk and store in canning jars. |

I thought drugstore pouch tobaccos had PG or glycerin type stuff in them like machine-made cigars.

Only pouches I've bought are SWR, Half and Half, Prince Albert and 5 Brothers. They come out of the pouch bone dry, but that's because there's not much turnover in the shop I buy them from. Haven't had a problem with them quality-wise, but I avoid the other large bags of generic drugstore tobacco... I think if someone's selling a pound of heavily cased tobacco for <$10, it's probably inferior

Most that have an opinion on these matters (that I've heard) prefer the large tubs (PA, CH, H&H, etc.) to the 1.5oz pouches. They state the flavor seems to be greater, not really different, just larger. I dunno. I actually found just the opposite with my tub of PA, but there has to be quite a few variables there too.

But many of these have been around for generations and I suspect that they out sell all tins combined (I would like to know if that is true) so I guess I will change my answer to false. I guess it is just a matter of taste. How's that for a direct answer? |
