Protocol Sir Robert Peel Maduro
This cigar has a dark wrapper with one major vein. It is oily to the touch. Some bready impressions come the foot of this box pressed cigar. The draw is perfect on this Cigar named after the father of modern policing by Protocol Cigars at the La Zona factory.
The initial flavors are earthy with oak and cherry wood notes. The retrohale is very smooth with a light touch of pepper. The cigar is burning very evenly. This is a medium to full bodied cigar. In the first third some cedar notes join the already woody flavor profile. Pepper notes appear in the retrohale. The burn remains even. During the second third the flavor profile remains consistent. Very pleasant with lots of smoke. The retrohale has become fairly strong with a solid base of pepper. The burn started to canoe a bit but then self corrected and is very even again. As is my wont, I am pairing the cigar with a Shiner Bock, which provides moisture to the palate without affecting the flavors. Approaching the final inch the cigar heats up a bit, mainly because the draw opened up a bit too much. Still, a very good, smooth cigar on the full bodied side. 8.7/10, Joe Bob says check it out.

These guys were at the Cigar Heritage Fest in Ybor City last year. Think they said they are a bunch of former Cops.
Thanks for the review, El Jefe! |

Juan Cancel is a recently retired cop. I think he hung up his badge in January of this year. Since then, he's hit the road all over the east coast and I believe he's working his way out west these days. He's all kinds of insane but in a good way. Bill Ives is still a cop in New Jersey. Not sure how long he has left for retirement but he's the guy that runs the back end of the business when he's not controlling the music (and the volume) at Protocol events. There are 2 other partners (I think) that travel incognito these days due to their association with the aforementioned founders. They only come out of hiding at events and social gatherings.
