Another old question - inter humidor humidity variation

Looking for discussion, esp. from the more scientifically minded (prflani???)

I know this has been discussed at length in older posts, but I keep seeing references to it in other threads and am somewhat intrigued from a scientific point of view regarding whether or not material differences exist in 1) Humidors top to bottom; and 2) SLB's or dress boxes in RH%.

For example lets look at a decent sized cabinet with a good seal (cooler or cabinet humi), relatively full of cigars and cedar (in cabs or trays, etc.), with "passive" humidification: beads, say a few "bead bean bags" tossed around.

My theory is in this case, little variation in humidity would exist across the humidor. In the humidor, once the beads are at equilibrium, I can't believe in a 2 or 3 or 8 foot tall humidor there is enough variation in other variables (pressure or temperature) to drive a humidity gradient top to bottom unless it's leaking, or opened excessively to a very dry external environment.

In addition, despite what I've read, I also find it hard to believe that in such an environment, any cigar storage box (SLB or dress) in long term storage could restrict the airflow so significantly that cigars would be dryer on the bottom and wetter on the top.

Any thoughts ?
