50/50 Solution
I've used a solution (not50/50) for a few years now and have generally been happy besides the fact it seems to evaporate faster than I'd like. I picked up a bottle of 50/50 with germicide today and while filling my credos noticed it was sticky, like sugar water. I'm hoping this will last longer. Anyone else use 50/50? And how do you like it. I know. One day I'll get some beads.

do you fill your credo's with 50/50 everytime???
That might be your problem because i think PG will stick around in the foam while the water evaporates and if you keep filling with 50/50 solution and not distilled water you'll eventually clog all your oasis foam with PG, prolly not the case with you but just a thought

pg only needs to be used first time it also kills mold so not sure if the germicide has something extra in it or not.

50/50 to initally charge the credo. Then use distilled water to recharge the credo. About every 6 months or so, you'll need to use some 50/50.
That's why I went to beads. No more guess work. |

You can make your own cheaper than buying it.
And PG has mild anti-microbial properties - they really don't add a germicide or anti-biotic to it......

When I used that type of humidification, I would use 50/50 PG solution about once every three or four recharges. Now I use beads!

In the winter months I just add distilled water. In the summer I'll add 50/50 twice.
Every couple of years I cut new blocks of foam and start over.

beads/gel
i was at the local JR today and they have beads made by madelaine (the company that makes 50/50 solution, the logo looks like groucho marx). they come in a small plastic jar and say they are pre-charged, just added distilled water if they start to go dry. has anybody used these? how do they compare with vipers beads? on the label it says they regulate at 70-72%.
also, for a small humidor (like this one http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?pa...HU150&type=hum) would one jar of those beads be enough? |
