Couch Potato
I wanted to whip together a small quantity of high quality vatted pure malt whisky for a couple of friends and fellow Scotch fiends at work. Both prefer the relatively smooth and easy-drinking style, so I tried to stick to a solid core of sherried Highland single malts while kicking things up a notch or two with the addition of a touch of coastal/island influence. Here's the recipe:
20ml Aberlour a'bunadh Batch No.21 40ml Ardmore 1981, Gordon & MacPhail 10ml Bowmore 16YO 1990 Sherry Matured 40ml Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition 1982 40ml Glenfarclas 15YO 20ml Glenfiddich 18YO 20ml Glenkinchie Distillers Edition 1986 40ml Highland Park 18YO 50ml Isle of Jura Superstition 10ml Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1990 20ml Macallan Cask Strength 20ml Oban Distillers Edition 1983 10ml Talisker Distillers Edition 1986 The result is rich Sherry cask sweetness personified along with little lightning bolts of salt and peat. The taste rounds out on the finish, and the whisky clocks in at just over 45.3%ABV, which will permit them to add a touch of water without destroying the balance. It never ceases to amaze me what can be done by blending a variety of single malts together... Sure beats the pants off most commercially available pure malt whiskies, too.
