I saw him with The Thorns several years ago when they were opening for the Jayhawks. The Thorns were a "supergroup" of sort... Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge, and Shawn Mullins. Matthew Sweet is pretty well-known but Droge and Mullins less so.
Pete Droge's best-known song was "If You Don't Love Me (I'll Kill Myself)" from the Dumb & Dumber soundtrack. Mullins had a hit with "Lullabye (Rockabye)". As the Thorns, they had great stage energy and tight harmonies. I don't think they're playing together anymore as I believe some of the purposes of the group were to fulfill label record requirements. I got to meet all three after the concert and Pete Droge was a really nice and friendly guy, as was Mullins. Matthew Sweet looked to be near-death.
