KC Lumberjack HERF? - Date set
I'll be in KC around Thanksgiving and was planning on trying to get a group together for a HERF. Then this afternoon I got a call from my niece. Apparently the wind took down the 150+ year old oak in the back yard. It landed between the house and the garage and apparently caused no damage to either. A friend went by this afternoon and was able to clear a path from the door to the gate, and claimed; if it had to fall, it couldn't have fallen in a better place. Thank goodness for small favors!
I'm still interested in getting a HERF together, but was wondering if a group of you KC gents with chainsaws would be interested in making it a combo Herf and good ole fashioned tree razin'? Free grub and beer (after the chainsaws are off) for those interested... I'm looking at the Wednesday before or anytime after T-day through the weekend for the HERF and tree razin', or just a HERF. Soooo, are you a lumberjack, and you're OK?

At this rate, I'll be luck just to find someone to smoke a cigar with... Ah well, it is a holiday and family time. My niece is now thinking it will make a nice, natural "jungle gym" for her daughter.

I'm the guy you need, but I'm sorry, KC is too far for me to go on a day trip that time of year.

Dang it Warren, if I would have read this sooner, I could have made arrangements to come down this past weekend. I was off Sunday and Monday. This weekend is out. Next weekend I'll be in Jersey, and Thanksgiving, day after and that weekend I work. I have a hatchet!

Can't make any promises, but I'm willing to try to help. I have a saw and some strong backs. Where is the tree located? It would be best if this was on a Saturday. PM me or shoot me an email at martin'at'olsons'dot'net let me know where the tree in question is and we'll see what we can do. BTW I'm in Tonganoxie, about 15 miles west of the Speedway.

The tree is in Mid-town. Close to the KU Med center. I am in AR right now, and in the middle of a major project, but will definitely be in the area Thanksgiving and through the weekend. Saturday after T-day would probably work great. Family is gathing for Thanksgiving in central KS and has been moaning that I may only be there for the day as my time could be limited in the area, so that would give me a little more time with them. I'll keep you posted, Mao.
Conrad- Thanks for the thought, we'll save the trunk for you to handle with your hatchet another time...

OK - the plan is made, though not actually set in stone. I should be pulling into KC Friday the 21st, and will start "whittling" the next day (no exact time set). So far a good buddy is definately coming with his saw, and one other BOTL from CW has shown interest. For the rest of youse... The admission fee to just come, point and laugh is one good cigar (BYO. Facilaties are available, just drop a quarter in the tank after you flush. PM for reservations.
