I was having a cigar with a friend and he noticed I didn't toast the foot of my cigar before I lit it. He said he always does because it give a more even burn. I told him I thught it was a waste of butain and I usually didn't have many burn problems with cigar. How many of you toast the foot before enjoying your cigar?

+1 for toasting. I have never not done so thus can't provide a comparison but at this point it's part of the ritual. Even burn, no burnt flavor and tradition I would say.

personally, that's my entire lighting process. hold the flame about a half inch under the foot, and keep it moving until the entire foot is charred and glows. then start smoking. with a torch, I hold them both horizontally. I generally give a single puff outwards before I start smoking.

I do it slow, take my time, and unless the cigar is badly built, it starts out and keeps going perfectly. I Don't really find that it works any differently than otherwise as far as taste or burn, but this way, I can see what I'm doing.

I always toast the foot, unless it's too windy. I do feel I get a better, more even start to the smoke when I toast the foot.

I think the key to a properly burning cigar is to get the burn straight from the beginning. The only way I seem to accomplish that is toasting with a torch.

Same here. As I do my smoking outside it's occasionally problematic because of the wind but I try every time. IMO it's worth it.

I light mine indoors and then go outside,,,even burn everytime

Another foot toaster here. I was taught that is the way you light a cigar so it's been with me ever since.
