Tupperdor?
I was initially planning on getting a cooler but size is more of an issue with heat. With that in mind, I figured to look at tupperware. Any opinions on these (click) which may help me? Thanks!

Any plastic container that seals relatively well will work as a humidor. I had a pretty large tupperdor in use for a while when I first got into cigars, and it worked beautifully. I used Climaxx media instead of the foam and PG, and never had any problems.

Just keep in mind, that plastic retains humidity. Be careful with the humidity and all will be fine. I have 5 tupperdors and have had no problems.

Thanks i think i'm gonna spring for one of those containers then... and I usually check my cigars weekly despite it being in a wooden drawer currently so I have no fears about humidity

Until this weekend [when I got my cooler], I had two 2.4 gal tupperdors, and a 2.9qt tupperdor, all three worked well for me for months.
I used Drymistat Crystal Sticks for humidification, and radio shack & diamond crown for hygrometers... all worked well. You may want to go by a LCS and get some spanish cedar sheets and blocks - the stuff that comes out of cigar boxes, and use those as well, they can help regulate RH a bit. Good luck! -John

I'm using the gel crystals that are rated at 70%-72% so I'm definitely keeping the cigars in their original boxes to hopefully regulate that to a suitable amount

Dan, the only problem I've had with storing the sticks in their boxes in the tupperdor is that I couldn't find a suitably BIG enough tupperdor - the biggest I could find locally was 2.4 gallons, which is enough for two boxes of average size, three if they were small boxes. That's why I went with sheets & blocks of spanish cedar to help with RH - worked well!

I spent $13 at wal-mart. got a 50qt coleman cooler.
Helps a lot with the heat, good storage space. and CHEAP! Thats my suggestion. |

I also have two 72 quart tupperdors. They can be found. The only problem is when they are full, they are very heavy. It is difficult to move them around.
