Springfield temp/humidity

I have been using a "Springfield" temperature/humidity digital from walmart which so far has been working pretty good. I took it out today at a reading of 70.2% and was preparing to move it to an unseasoned humi. I noticed on the back of it, that there was one of those "inspected by" stickers, very small. I took it off not thinking about anything, noticed there was a hole underneath and the next thing I knew it read 80%. Not sure if this sticker impeded the humidity much but has this happened to anyone?? I have it in a baggy with a saltwater solution now and it is now up to 84%. I will leave it in for a few more hours.

Is this thing a piece of shit or what?? I am heading out to get another anyway.

INFORMATION: I live in maine, temp outside is 65 or so and RAINING. Maybe the outside air is really that saturated but I would expect it to start dropping again....

You say saltwater solution so I have to ask, but you know it should be salt that's just damp with moisture to do the 75% calibration? Reading 'saltwater' I just imagine a cup of salty water.

But, it could be a lot of things different in the ambient air. It really could be 80% RH in your house. My house spikes up when it rains but I have two fireplaces that let air in and the house is old and "leaky" anyway, which causes me to have a dehumidifier that runs 24/7. Humans really are benign to RH changes unless it's at one of the extreme ends of the spectrum.

I have no clue what brand of hygrometer you're speaking of though and its quality. Only way is to just wait out the salt test and see where your hygrometer settles.

yeah sorry, its salt and water. NOT saltwater per se. I leveled out at about 76%, and I think for the salt test its supposed to be 75% right? Maybe with that sticker off it reads the changes faster instead of the gradual way before...as far as quality....its a $7 walmart special.

Thanks

You were probably due to recalibrate it anyway this year and so all is well
