I was there with savbond000 at that show. DAC gets a bad rep because... 1.) The two X-rated novelty albums he did (Underground and Nothing Sacred) 2.) Because for some reason songs by a racist country singer named Johnny Rebel constantly get attributed to David Allan Coe, despite his numerous attempts to fight this misconception over the years The two X-rated albums were made to be intentionally offensive, but there are only two racist songs he made. The rest is mostly just REALLY dirty (and hilarious) sexual stuff and some of the stuff is supposedly written by Shel Silverstein. DAC has said they were just shock-rock songs, and that he isn't a racist. <END THREADJACK> Anyway, before DAC, last one I went to was Robert Randolph and the Family Band here @ Axis Nightclub in Bloomington, IN. If you've never seen or heard of this guy, he's f'n AWESOME! Slide guitar player who plays classic rock and just goes nuts on stage! My buddy Kyle was lucky enough to be upfront during the concert and catch his pick when he threw it out into the crowd at the end of the show. For somone that I thought wasn't well known, that club was packed to the walls that night! |

BTW, about the DAC show...
I gotta agree with savbond that the guy who always opens for him, Dallas Moore, WAS freakin' outstanding! David didn't really put on a great show that night, in fact he just walked off stage in the middle of it to the dismay of his bandmates (I hear from some that he's kinda like that, either he gives a great show or he just gets pissed and walks off early). But Dallas Moore made it worthwhile. |

Robert Randolph and the family band accompanied the 5 blind boys on the "Higher Ground" CD. If you ever get the chance, listen to this CD, and you'll become a convert to Gospel. If that doesn't work, the only better intro to Gospel is the one the blind boys did before this, "Spirit of the Century", which is one of my top 10 albums ever.
All that being said, my last live concert was the Rebirth Brass Band. The best brass band in New Orleans, which means the best brass band in the world. Next up: the psychodots on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If you live in Dayton, Cinti, or Chicago, check out the dots turkey day shows!

Peter Frampton three years ago at the local casino. I never knew he was such an awesome and diverse guitarist. He did stuff you normally only hear from people like Metheny or SRV. Yeah, jazz & blues is something he does extremely well but we never get to hear it.
