Firehouse, Skid Row & LA Guns

Last night we went to the local casino to see this trio of heavy metal firepower (thanks to my mom getting tickets) and it was a fair show. I know, you're thinking "Firehouse? Heavy Metal Firepower? RIGHT!!!" Well, their lead guitar player, Bill Leverty is awesome, their bass player, Allen McKenzieis awesome, their drummer, Micheal Foster was rock solid and their singer, CJ Snare is extremely good live. Their mix was a little loud for the venue but it wasn't intolerable. A very good performance by veterans and music that survives time.

LA Guns was mediocre. They did a decent job but I think we could easily keep up with them quality-wise. I expected a lot more from them. Very poor house mix but the volume level was good. Stacey Blades (lead guitar) was the highlight but Phil Lewis isn't a bad frontman. Their drummer Steve Riley sucked. I noticed him not keeping a steady beat several times during their thirty minute set. Their bass player had a terrible mix but he played ok.

The biggest disappointment was Skid Row. I know Sebastian Bach has alcohol problems but he's ten times the showman/singer their current singer is. Their sound mix was far too loud for the 4,000 seat venue we were at. Their lead guitarist, Scotti Hill was incredible but pretty scary looking. He had an absolutely killer tone, I just wish it hadn't been so loud.

Then this gal sitting next to us was getting drunk along with others around us and spilling their drinks. One landed on the chair my wife was sitting on and got her leg wet, another sloshed some fruity drink on the back of her head and my arm. Then some idiot they didn't even know, who was drunk and feeling up these other two gals, fell over the gal next to us and on the guy sitting in front of us. The guy pulled the idiot up off the floor and I thought he was going to smack him. It was a real mess. I asked the staff to remove the idiot because of what he was doing, not to mention his seat was somewhere else but they did nothing so we moved to a different area.

We left after six or seven songs of Skid Row because it was so loud you couldn't tell what they were saying or playing and that ruins it for me. Picked up a couple of Firehouse t-shirts and came home. My ears are still not right. All in all though it wasn't a bad night.
