Tom Waits
Great songwriter, great musician and he has a great sense of humor imho. Favorite albums...all of them....okay if I have to pick 3
1. Small Change 2. Nighthawks at the Diner 3. Rain Dogs The two most recent Alice and Blood Money are also recommended and not to leave out Mule Variations ....what is he doing in there..... just great stuff all around. |

I definitely agree with your first two choices Faust!
I never could get in to Rain Dogs for some reason. I probably would include "Heart Attack & Vine" in that list. I also REALLY enjoy "Mule Variations"......it sort of combined his "early" style with his "later" style IMO.

spiridon, have you had a chance to hear the VH1 Storytellers for Tom Waits? He talks about the songs and then sings them, standard storyteller format and Tom Waits is just hillarious.

Faust, no I haven't! Now that you mention it, I remember hearing about his VH-1 spot sometimes last year.......but always seemed to miss it. Do they still air it every now and then?
I Do have a copy of an early appearance of him on Austin City Limits.....real cool.

Cheakamus, that line from NightHawks at the Diner is one of my all time favorites. :u"
The Rain Dogs line......I used to use that as my SigTag. One thing is for sure, Tom certainly knows how to "Turn a phrase"

I also have the Austin City Limits show, probably the same one. I was able to find several good live recording of his. Waits, Zappa and Miles Davis probably occupy a large part of my CD collection. |
