Yes. According to Lew Rothman, candela wrapped cigars were the norm until after WWII.

I like a candela wrapped cigar once in a while. La Gloria Cubana had a great candela, but it was only available at Thompson's. Selection is pretty limited these days, but Fuente makes a pretty good one still.
