Mildew in Humidor

I received an important assignment at work today. My boss brought in his 50ct humidor showing signs of mildew. It appears he used a wet sponge to boost the humidity when the device which came with the humidor wasn't keeping up. He thought the humidity needed to be 80%. Under where sponge was appears to be mildew, not mold. I was thinking of letting it air out a couple days and then wipe it with a damp rag and mild soap. The cigars feel like a sponge - I placed them in a ziplock bag for the time being. Once I get the mold cleaned up I will recharge the humidification device with 50/50 ppg solution. Is the right course of action?
