Hi there, I'm new to the forum, but I've read every post in here.
I haven't been smoking cigars for too long, but it's sorta becoming a passion and I find myself wanting more and wanting to find out more about them. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I've decided to make a humidor for about 30 or so cigars (to start off with..) I'm using Hard Maple for the box, Spanish Cedar for the interior. The box will be about 13x10x5. Questions I have are: When I finish the box, do I also finish the interior of it (not the cedar). I've read conflicting stories. Also, how do you control wood expansion of the lid? (bottom will be a ply panel - hidden from view) What are some of the ways to secure the lid to the box while also taking expansion into account? I like the look of the flat, smooth top. Are they using a panel for the top in these types of Humidors? I'm sure I'll have a few more questions as I get into the project. Right now I've just jointed/planed the Maple, I've picked up the Cedar plank and I've got a Credo Rondo Humidifier and a digital Hygrometer. More work on the box tomorrow. Thanks for any help/tips you can offer. |
