Name Groups With Staying Power
I am talking about groups that have endured the test of time for at least 10 years and their new stuff is still fresh, relevant, and able to climb the charts. Whether you like their music or not, groups that come to my mind are U2 and George Straight.

It's George Strait...
I'm going to have to disagree about U2. Nothing relevant for at least the last four or five years. Aerosmith and the stones both had good long runs, but I don't consider either of them relevant any more.

Not much of ANY of today's music is relevant, IMO.

Now...The Rolling Stones. I first got into this group during the "disco" years. My dad obliged my hungering need for rock 'n' roll. "Sticky Fingers", "Between The Buttons", "Some Girls", "Beggars Banquet" and "Let It Bleed" still have the same power that it did when they came out. The Doors. When Jim Morrison died he took the band with him, however they're reinvigorated with new singers and perhaps a new cd is in the works with the surviving members. I still listen to their 1st release and there's a magical feeling about it. "Waiting For The Sun" has an explosive, almost rage to it. They're the one band that I wish I could've seen live in person. Dem's me 2 picks...

I haven't been following them for the last few years, but The Kinks were going strong from the 60s though the 90s.

greatest Rock and Roll band ever the Rolling Stones
George Jones, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Del McCoury, Ricky Scaggs, Guy Clark, Doc Watson You got to define the 'charts' the charts are no longer relavent with the pirating of music. You got blues people like Buddy Guy, James Cotton, jazz guys like Eric Gale, Hank Crawford ...etc on and one they never make the 'charts' never have so I don't think being in on the charts is relavent except for pop & pop-country.

Jeff, U2 has put out some decent stuff on the last few albums. Bono is a still a cokehead.
Some others that I like: De la Soul---I know most of you hate rap, but every single one of their albums are packed with good stuff. 1988-2004. Prince still draws the fine women. Stevie Wonder |

Like his voice or not, has anyone heard the last two Bob Dylan albums. IMHO, great, great songwriting right up there with the best of his stuff.
Just ignore the 80s. He has staying power today. -dylanh

Of the modern day bands I think Linkin Park will have staying power...I'm 40+ and my 16 year old son turned me on to them and I think they are great...I like Lucinda Williams a lot also..

Radiohead continues to put out phenomenal music. And each album is so different from the next. Hail to the Thief didn't receive as many accolades as some of the older stuff, but it was still highly regarded. And they are one of the greatest live bands I have ever seen.
