Cover tunes better than the originals?

What cover tunes (remakes) do you think are better than the original tune?

Here are a few personal selections:

Close Up The Honky Tonks
- Dwight Yoakum's instead of Buck Owens
Here, There and Everywhere
- EmmyLou Harris instead of The Beatles
Hurt
- Johnny Cash instead of Nine Inch Nails
Sweet Jane
- Cowboy Junkies instead of Lou Reed
High and Dry
- Jamie Cullum instead of Radiohead

I could have listed many of the British bands who sufficiently covered many of the American blues standards, but there are too many great examples to mention.

What are some of your selections?

Killing the Blues Robert Plant and Allison Krauss over John Prine and Roland Saly. Saly wrote it.
Last Kiss Pearl Jam over ?
Turn the Page Metallica over Bob Seger
Blues Man Alan Jackson over Hank Jr.
Man, there are so many...

I'm not a fan, but Marilyn Manson's cover of Eurhythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) was in the credits of a movie I was watching and I thought it was actually better than the original. The original swept the sinister undertones of the lyrics under the carpet with bubblegum pop. Manson embraced the same sinister quality and brought it to full flower.

Without a doubt.:

Rebel Yell (Billy Idol) - H.I.M.

Where Is My Mind (The Pixies) - Ghoti Hook (Not necessarily better, but a dead on cover.

All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Version) - DMB (Again not better, but an original take on a great song)

Ohhhhh....
Love, reign over me Eddie Vedder over The Who. If you haven't heard this version, you need to. It's so raw, and really captures what the song should have been, IMHO.

That's funny, because the first thing I thought of for this thread was Jimi's version over Dylan's (the original).

Speaking of Dylan covers, I also like Johnny Winter's version of Highway 61 Revisited better than Dylan's, but mostly because I really like Winter's chops (voice and guitar).

I gotta agree, this is an awesome cover that blows the original out of the water.
