Faux Spanish Cedar?
I jus got a new humi, it was advertised as being spanish cedar...well i have two smaller humis with spanish cedar and they have a destinctive smell...this one doesnt...it doesnt even smell like cedar....it has a tray and 2 pieces that you use to seperate sections...they kind of smell cedar-ish...i wiped it down with a barely damp cloth and a red-brown residue wiped off.....

Residue like sawdust, or residue like paint?
You might want to contact the seller.

how much residue came off? There will be some residue but it shouldn't be a whole lot.
As far as the smell - I've never had a brand new cedar box (of any kind) that didn't have a strong cedar smell to it.

Not much came off, just a really light coat that could maybe fill a 2''x2'' square, i does have a faint smell of cedar, although not like my other 2 humis that have that really pungent smell...

the residue doesn't suprise me -- the smell is what gets me. Where did you buy the humi from - if you don't mind me asking.

I am aware of some trays being made with plywood and covered with a cedarlike veneer. It's so thin it's more like contact paper. Sometimes when you buy a cheap humidor....you get a cheap humidor.
