New to pipes
Hello all,
I have decided to do a little pipe smokin' along with my cigar smokin' (not at the same time ). What type of tobacco should I try, to start out with, and can I keep pipe tobacco in my humidor with my cigars?? Someone once told me that I can keep pipe tobacco in the fridge, is this true?? Also, since I am just starting out, can you guys recommend an on-line site that I can purchase a sampler of pipe tobacco?? Or if anyone here is interested in putting together a sampler please PM me with details. I can do an outright buy or trade for a few cigars. I have one last question, what should I pay for a pipe and what are good brands??? I am a gradute student so I obviously don't have much money, but I don't want a piece of crap that may ruin my smoking experience. Is this anygood or just crap: http://www.marscigars.com/item.jhtml...1&PRID=1065816 I have ~$25.00 to spend on a pipe. Thanks for your input |

I'd also recommend keeping pipe tobacco and cigars separate. Pipe tobaccos generally have stronger odors that could co-mingle with your favorite stogies with bad results. Quote:

Looks like lots of new guys trying the pipe-good for you. I haven't checked this forum for some time, but with fall coming I've been starting to think its time to bust out the pipe for a while.
I usually smoke cigars, but several years ago got interested and tried pipes and found them to be an excellent change of pace. To me there are a wider variety of tastes in pipe tobacco that I don't get with cigars. As to storage, I have kept my pipe tobaccos in the rafters of my basement. Some of them have been there for three years now. Some opened, some not, and they have all aged well and are smokeable. As to pipes, lots of good reasonably priced pipes out there. I got some from ebay, and others just searching the web. For whatever reason, I've always favored my Stanwell pipes. Take care of that tongue as you get started, and give it fair chance as I thinks pipes are wonderful. |
