Another newbie with a newbie question

Hi guys. I love your pad here. I've been hanging out in other cigar forums and just found yours yesterday. Very cool.

Now for a question. I know that 'purging' a cigar makes it taste better, but I don't understand 'why'... Can somebody explain why sticking a flame to the foot and blowing makes the last half of the cigar ten times more enjoyable?

Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge, purging is to clear out excess smoke trapped in the cigar. The smoke sorta ferments itself, and can sometimes be the reason for the second half of a cigar smoking bitter. I purge when I want a clean puff from the cigar.

Purging can also help the burn.

Just my measley .02

Thanks for the quick response. That's kind of what I thought, but I wasn't sure if there was some kind of gas build up in the stick or something. I guess I just wanted to know.

On another note, I've been crawling this site for the last hour and I gotta say, IT'S AWESOME. This place is huge and full of great info.

I think you guys may be stuck with me...
