Newbie temporary storage question.

Hello,

I'm fairly new to storing cigars; I've been smoking them occasionally for years, but always smoked whatever I bought the same day. Now I'm smoking a bit more, to the point wherre I'm keeping a small number (~5-10) of cigars on hand.

I had a bad experience with a "tupperdor" completely turning some cigars into mush, so I stopped using that. Now my setup is simply a sturdy (fairly thick-walled, closes well) all-wood cigar box with a couple of the Humidipak Fuente humidor bags in it. I'm working on a more permanent solution, but is this okay for a while? I can tell they're certainly not getting over-humidified, and the humidor bags haven't dried out, so I'm assuming it's keeping things fairly well, but I'm obviously working with unscientific measures here. Am I okay in the short-term, or do I need to get on a better system ASAP?

How long do you think you will keep the 5-10 cigars? If you will smoke them in the next couple of weeks, I think you will be fine with your box and humidipak. I would however suggest using the tupperware again (I know you had bad experience with it) but this time, use the humidipak with the tupperware. This will keep the humidity at a constant (what ever RH your humidipak is calibrated ) and extend the life of your humidipak as well.

Enjoy and Welcome!!!

Go to cigarbid and get a 30 count otterbox travel humidor. No more worries.

I had tghe exact same problem you described. "Just set up a 'tuper-dor'" is not as easy as some make it to be.

I ruined some nice cigars in there.

If you try again, use beads, they are practically foolproof.

I don't understand the humidpak bags inside a box. Don't you seal the bags? Why use a box too....crushproof protection or something?

The Fuente humidpak bags are advertised to work for six months after you open them and, aside from keeping cigars moister than I like them, seem to work just fine for months on end.

. Get a Tupperware/Rubbermaid box big enough to hold 1 or 2 cedar cigar boxes. Get beads and distilled H2O. Read the FAQ's about using the beads. No worries...

Beads will make your life easy and your cigars perfect. Just make sure that you are using them correctly.

I agree and if you don't use it for travel and you take the foam out, you can probably get more than 30 in there. Of course it always ready for travel as well

You can DEFINITELY get more in there than 30 without the foam. I can usually get 25 churchills into my 15-stick caddy, with the foam removed.
