Floral foam question "couldn't find it in the archives&

How much floral foam per quart of coolerdor? Or does it just depend on the location of the stars in the sky? Is a full block of foam too much for a 54 QT coolerdor?

I have seen talk about using foam and 50/50 PG, but never how much foam to use.

Thanks
Mike

It doesn't take much foam. I've got a 54-quart and my foam is about 6 inches by 4 inches by 1 inch thick and it is more than enough. I soaked it with 50/50 when I set up the box and let it level out by opening the cooler. Now I add water every now and then.

I used less than a full block for a 100+ cooler with no problem. If you feel air circulation is a problem (shouldn't be with a 54 qt) make yourself two humidifyig units. I just placed the foam in gladware containers with holes in the top or with the top off.

I take the block of foam and cut 1/4 inch thick slices. I use 1 slice per 54 qt cooler. In the 100qt+ coolers, I use 2 slices.

So is it possible to use too much foam? or does the PG keep it under control?

I don't think that the size of the foam is that scientific....a bigger piece shouldn't have a negative effect....IMO....but other opinions may vary....

I think it really depends on how much humidity is in the air outside of your cooler. I just set one up and the humidity outside is like 20% so I need a pretty good amount of foam in there to regulate it. Fill that baby up with cigars also it helps alot

This may be a stupid question to some, but make sure you get WET floral foam, not dry floral foam...It's not wet when you buy them, but there is a huuuge difference..The dry foam is for already dead or dried flower arrangements and the wet floral foam absorbs water and is used for living or freshly cut arrangements (and holds water and thus, humidity)
I made the mistake and bought the dry stuff a few years ago and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't holding the distilled water like it should

Yea, what Jb said. But here in Indy in the winter, the air is so dry I usually find I'm adding water about every 3-4 days to maintain proper temp. (That's why I'm going to an active system as soon as I get my refund check.)
