Two Hygrometers. Two VERY Different Readings. Please Help.
I have a Western Caliber III and a Remote Hygrometer from Radio Shack
http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=63%2D1030 The WCIII has been sitting in the humidor for about two weeks now and has stabilized at 71% rh. I placed the Radio Shack in there about 24 hours ago and it has topped out and stablized at 64%. Obviously, I do not know which one is giving me an accurate reading but I am inclined to believe the WCIII is. I have the cigar oasis plus which is "pre-set" to about 70% rh when it arrives new in the box. The WCIII read approx 68-69% with the pre-set setting. When i increased humidity setting on the oasis plus a titch, the WCIII read 71% (the radio shack is at 64%). This would indicate that the WCIII is giving me a more accurate reading. I know some people will likely tell me that if the cigars feel and smoke how I like them I shouldnt worry what the setting says. However, I am a complete newbie and dont really know how something should feel/taste in an optimal sense. My palate is still developing. They taste and feel fine, but perhaps could taste and feel better -- IOW my experience is extremely limited. Having an accurate rh reading could certainly help me achieve a personal benchmark to work from. For example, I bought a box of Ashton Coronas which are sitting in the humidor. The wrapper is slightly loose on most of the cigars which were in the box. However, I dont think this is humidification issue, but rather a construction issue, as there were a bunch of Asthon VSG's in there as well which are fine. The above is an example of my limited experience. I literally just started smoking less than 1 month ago. Any suggestions regarding my situation? Thanks in advance for all your help. |
