Accurite digital hygrometer modification ?

I have recently purchased an Accurite digital hygrometer because of A)price and, more importantly, some positive things I have read on this board.

Basically, for those of you who don't know, it is a slim unit that has a long wire with a sensor attached. The sensor, and consequently the wire, is for deteching outside temperature only. The sensor for reading inside temp and detecting humidity is located on the main unit.

So, my question is: Do you think I can clip the wire without compromising the performance of the unit for my purposes (i.e., readings inside the humidor)?
I am hoping someone has done this, but I will be happy to hear speculations as well.
Thanks.
