Yes, his financial advisers may have acted criminally, but he was the one that "lost" most of that money. These athletes need to understand that someday, someday soon, the enormous flow of income is going to stop. They need to budget accordingly. Many, unfortunately, do not.

sudden wealth is hard to understand, hard to manage, and hard to not blow through. You'd think the league would try to help them, or the player's association, but given that pro athletes have been told for 18-22 years that they are invincible it probably wouldn't sink in.
