Not sure if there is more to the story or not concerning Stoops but I really don't think there is. They just signed Riley to a three year contract at good money to ensure he stayed but the reality is that he was soon to be off to a head coaching job before long.

Stoops has long said he had no desire to coach into his 60s and I really think he just thought this was the perfect time to step down and hand the program off to Riley. I hate to see him go but the truth is that Riley taking over I believe will be good for the program. New blood, new ideas and new drive, kind of like when Stoops came here.

timing seemed strange to me, not as bad as Ohio State greasing the hoops coach, but still strange timing to me
