I solved my humidor problem. Or did I?

What I have is an air tight container thats about a half gallon size. I cut a small piece of sponge and made it moist with distilled water. After a few days I checked it out and the container seemed to feel like a humidifier. But maybe I am missing something and can do better with the same container.
