Xikar Cigar Case

Got a nice 3-cigar, leather case for X-mas. The Xikar case is nicely constructed...leather, sturdy stitching, etc. However, I'm perplexed about something...

I've never used a telescoping case like this before, but it appears that larger cigars can get crushed if someone (or something) squeezes the case from each end. I guess what I mean to say is that there is not enough friction between the two halves of the case to have it remain open with larger cigars. Aside from laying the case flat or putting just robustos in there, I'm not sure how to avoid damaging my stogies.

Insights? Tips?
