El Tiante Robusto Maduro.... A Big Jack Review
After retirement, Luis Tiant, who is an avid cigar smoker, decided to launch his own line of cigars, appropriately named after his nickname, "El Tiante" cigars. The cigars are completely formulated and designed by him. All cigars are made by Victor Calvo. The makers of Bucanero Cigars.
Wrapper – Nicaraguan Binder: Ecuador Filler: Nicaraguan/Mexican. These are real nice looking cigars. They have a thick, glossy maduro wrapper, toothy, and feel very hard to the touch. When I say hard, I mean HARD!! Precut, these things feel like they are plugged. After clipping it, I was surprised at the nice draw it had. Not too easy, but not nearly as hard as I expected. After lighting, I thought it was pretty mild, but as I smoked it, the strength, and flavors really kicked in. The cigar I smoked, being an early release, was, as expected, a little green. Amazingly, this wasn't as bad as you'd expect. The flavors were complex, and the grassyness, didn't nearly overpower them. With a few months age, the grassyness should go away, leaving a very flavorful cigar behind. Construction, was excellent. I finally tipped the ash, at about an inch and a half, but it would have held longer. The burn was razor straight, with a slightly cone shaped cherry. I smoked it down to about an inch, and was surprised, that a cigar this young never got harsh. Overall, this was a very enjoyable cigar, that will only get better.
