Just as the title says, What tool do you use for opening the head of your cigar for smoking, and why do you choose that method?

Punch, v-cut, straight cut, etc.

Used my punch for the first time today as i had problems with a regular cut on two cigars of the same vitola and marca, and wanted something saferto avoid a peeling wrapper.

Was impressed with how easy it was and it produced a perfectly fine draw, much like a Torpedo or similar tapered head cigar.

I friggin love cigars

Straight cut for me. I've tried the other but just doesn't feel right to me.

Most - straight cut. Second is a punch and then fingernail cut.

My 20 year old Xikar still works well. In addition I sometimes use one of three different sized punches. Last but not least my small SAK blade run around the shoulder also works.

I dont know if my cutter is getting dull already (Colibri Cut from last Christmas) or what, but even the method of laying the cutter flat on my desk, and inserting the cigar and cutting, I'm having frequent issues with peeling at the head or the remainder of the cap coming off when doing a cold draw check.

Anyone have any ideas?
It should be a good cutter and not dull already, and laying it flat on my desk, the cut portion is very thin, so shouldn't be cutting too much.

I'm at a loss why the remainder of the cap comes off or there is frequent peeling.

Seriously considering going to my punch only.

Always a straight cut using my SAK scissors or a Zino or Palio double guillotine depending on what's handy. Never cared for a punch cut, too much tar concentration at the head for me.

Never tried scissors before, and don't see them mentioned very often for whatever reason.

Had no issues with tar buildup on my Robusto yesterday, but it was a pretty mild cigar, so may not have contained much tar. The punch seemed very similar to a tapered head cigar like a Belicoso, piramide, or torpedo.

I am almost exclusively V-cut. I have a Calibri V-cutter had it for years still cuts like a champ. I do have to take the air compressor every now and then and blow out all the little pieces so it will open easily.

Guillotine cut for me. About two weeks ago I misplaced my 25 year-old Cigar Savor cutter. It's around the house, somewhere, so I am subbing with another double bladed cutter.

Well, have been having enough peeling issues with cutters that i plan to just always use my punch from no one. No issues and draw still seems fine.

We'll see over time if i get the tar buildup issue AK2000 mentioned about punches.
