This is why I am souring on baseball.
They are clinging to anything to create a story line, of course, as they need eyeballs and clicks. But it pisses me off. For YEARS, now, the commissioner's office and "baseball" have been doing everything in their power to blur the lines between the two leagues. We have so much got damned inter-league play that it's no longer interesting or fun, to me, at least. We now have universal designated hitter which is simply abominable, again, to me at least. But suddenly Aaron Judge has a home-run hitting season for the ages, and all we hear....because it's all they've got....is American League home run record, ad nauseam. So which is it "baseball?" Are we just "Major League Baseball" or suddenly, do the individual leagues matter again? And, don't get me started about the analytics and the loss of certain styles of play due to analytics. Aaron Judge's accomplishment is still to be celebrated, and I mean, all three as John Sterling said in the radio broadcast, Yankee right fielders. I am not trying to denigrate Aaron Judge, but these last few weeks, just really frosted my cookies, as someone who has loved baseball most of my life.

The only record that matters is 73 by Bonds. Anything less isn’t a record. 74 and you beat the old record.

Bonds was using steroids. Since when do we allow cheaters to hold records? End of story.
Regardless, this is an American league record, and a Yankee team record.

Yes Bonds used steroids, but as long as MLB allows Bonds 73 record stand, Judge 61 is just that, short of the record.

Yep, MLB is still allowing the home run records of PED users to stand. So Bonds is still king at 73. Sorry Judge, 62 is a great home run number but it’s no record. When you hit 74, then you get all the bragging rights.
All MLB has to do is strip PED users from the list, they won’t so 73 stands. But if MLB strips PED users from the list, looks like Judge will be top dog.

Yes, until MLB baseball takes any action against the cheaters, it's not a MLB record. But it's a Yankee record and an American League record.

I was at the game that Mcgwire hit 69 and 70. I kept the ticket stub and thought that it would be a great momento someday. Damn Barry Bonds.
