Took the plunge
Okay, so it wasn't a big plunge, but I dropped $35 on a briar pipe a couple of ounces of bulk tobacco (affectionately known at the B&M as "Heavenly Delight" and "Coconut Cream") as recommended by the tobacconist (with it being cheaper than buying a tin and a good way to see if I'd enjoy the mechanics of pipe smoking).
Last night I lit up my first "break-in" bowl, only smoking it about half-full. My packing must have left something to be desired because I had to tamp and relight several (maybe 6) times. The taste was good (not as creamy as a cigar, but certainly tasty), and it smoked cool. I may have been waiting too long between draws because I wasn't picking up much smoke volume beyond the lighting puffs. Anyhow, now I'm looking to scope out what kinds of tobacco I should aim for as a beginner. The B&M has a selection of Dunhill, Peterson, and CAO tobaccos. He's got "Nightcap" of which I've heard good things, but I'd like some recommendations based on your experience.
