Sorry guys, music is too diverse to call anything or anyone "the best".

Plus... What constitutes "the best" is invariably in the ears of the beholder.

It is really hard to settle on a Best Ever. So many genres to choose from. I have to nominate Dave Brubeck. Take Five is the most classic jazz tune I can think of.

No argument with THAT choice here.
(...though they were simply astounding when joined by Eric Dolphy)

After seeing him live at the Fox Theatre, I have to nominate Leonard Cohen on his body of work alone. Fifty damned years and still going strong with one of his best albums ever, Popular Problems. I thought he had peaked with The Future. Boy was I wrong.

One of the finest Leonard Cohen live performances I can recall (and why not, given his having Sonny Rollins backing him up?)...

That's a really righteous performance, Doug. One of his best songs, too. If you liked his old stuff, you really owe it to your self to check out his last 10 albums. Totally different sound, but just as compelling as his earlier work. It is just as dark, but not so jazzy.
Spent most of today listening to The Future. It just captured today's mood. It's hard to imagine that his greatest hits were re-issued just 40 years ago and he's still going strong and in completely different direction.
