Whiskies and Port Casks
That's the title of my latest A Rich Pour column (No. 39), which is featured on the Cigar Weekly Home Page.
Most fans of whiskies (especially Scotches) have encountered spirits aged in used Bourbon barrels and Sherry casks. But the utilization of Port casks can put an entirely new spin on the flavour spectrum of whiskies. Have a look HERE.

I'll have to take a look at this article later for sure. Sounds very interesting.

Hope you had an opportunity to peruse the piece (and also enjoyed it), Rob.

Wonderful article. I checked out the Balvenie 21 Yr Port Wood online, and at $229 a bottle, it's a little out of my price range. Especially for something I've never had. But your article makes it awfully tempting. I wonder if a local bar might have it, and what they'd charge for single glass.

Thanks for the kind words, Robert & Rob.
The cost HAS risen dramatically over the last few years. Hitting a local 'watering hole' to try it would appear to be a good option, Rob.

Thanks Doug. Good read.
I've had the two Glenmorangies, and I've also had the Angel's Envy. All are great whiskies. I would love to try a pour of the Balvenie.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about the Costco brand 16yr old single malt they have on the shelves at this time. 750ml bottle for $48. Like to know more before I try a bottle.

Are you referring to the Bourbon cask aged one? If so, the actual distillery source is something of a mystery, as it's bottled by an independent bottler and no specific distillery site is specified. I think it's safe to assume that you're not going to get anything near a top-flight malt, though (the whisky is almost certainly chill filtered and is bottled at a relatively low - 40%ABV - strength).

Thanks Doug. That is the one I was referring to. Glad I asked beforehand.
