difference between humidor and cooler?

when people talk about cooler are they referring to a wine cooler? If so, is that as good as a humidor as far as keeping cigars fresh? Then why not use the refrigerator? And when they talk about beads what do they mean? Thanks for the help since I'm a fairly new cigar smoker and am about to get into preserving my cigars.
