Deals involving random cigars

So I decided to go ahead and get the Assorto-Dor from JR. It's a desktop humidor that comes filled with 12 premium cigars chosen from boxes that were returned as damaged. The whole thing costs $35. I figure the humidor itself is worth $20 minimum, and at $15 for 12 sticks I'll probably get a good deal. Has anyone else purchased the Assorto-Dor or something similar? What was that like? In the middle of doing that I got some spam in my email account. Normally I ignore it as a matter of principle, but this one was from Thompson Cigars offering 12 cigars and an aluminum carrying case for $29.95. They actually mention the brands: one each of Partagas, RyJ, La Gloria CUbano, Macanudo, Onyx, HdM, CAO Brazilia, etc.... sounds like pretty good stuff!

As a newbie it seems like there are pretty good deals, but I feel like I must be missing something... anyone?
