Sad indeed, but an all too common scenario over the last century. To paraphrase Joni Mitchell, "Take down a distillery and put up a parking lot."
Tried a Signatory 10YO version some time ago, which struck me as oily, sweet at first and then sharper. I seem to remember characterizing it as "the cream soda of Scotches."
