This is a very good cigar. Why? I'll tell you.

The dark brown box press (square) cigar caught my attention immediately because it's not something I ordinarily would look at. However, it is well constructed and has a pre-light aroma that captivated my senses.

Aside from the very rich tobacco smell, there is a noticeable side-tone that I can only describe as a deep, earthy hard candy note. Not sweet, mind you, but a scent I can't identify any other way.

Wrapper: Equador Habano, slightly veiney but not overly so and leathery.

Binder/Filler: Nicaraguan

Bunch: Firm but not hard.

Pre-Light Draw: Just right. The richness of the tobacco comes through even though it's not lit.

First light: The flavor of a complex, rich blend comes through immediately. There's no punch of pepper or spice, but there is plenty of body with no burn in the nose or throat.

Post-light draw is perfect. I didn't strain a bit but it also wasn't loose.

After a few minutes the flavors start to build and even though it's not real complex, it is still rich and pleasing. I like spice in my cigars and this doesn't have any that I can taste or smell, but it's got such a full body that it doesn't need spice to make it good.

Smoke: Not bad, enough to say there is some but it's not overpowering. It holds its aroma very well from start to finish.

Post-Light Flavor: Did I mention it's very rich and bold? Chewy, definitely full-bodied but it's not a nicotine bomb. Throughout the experience it didn't change much, but it stayed heady and very enjoyable.

Burn: I had to touch up several times but it didn't take off one way or another. It also burned fairly quick but not hot.

Ash: Flaky dark and light grey.

With a very distinguished flavor and being full of body, this is a cigar I wouldn't hesitate to buy if it were in my local shop. The only thing that would make it better for my taste is just a hint of pepper, but it's very good as-is.

I'd give this one a solid 4 out of 5.
