Well, that's the only explanation I can come up with. The humidor is one of the Sam's Club IDC humis with the "millenium" logo on top. I've had good luck with but recently it doesn't want to seem to get up to the proper humidity (65% for my tastes).

I opened it last night and the digital hygro read 52%. I had had a small bowl of Cracked Ice in there so the humidity should have been higher. I figured my hygro was off so I pulled it out. As soon as I took it out of the humi, the reading on the hygro started going up! This is in my basement where it's relatively dry. I popped the hygro into my Vicksburg with calibrate pen hygro and this moring they read within 1 point of each other.

Very strange....

Did you fart in there?? Told you not to listen to Ironbar

He said, 'Coach, I don't know and I don't care.' "

It sounds like either the humidor needs to be reconditioned or your humidifying unit is not working correctly or you need to add whatever you add to the humidifying unit.

Did you just dump a bunch of new cigars in? If so, it can take a while to stabilize.

Two words: Climaxx beads!

I have these in ALL of my humidors and have not had a single fluctuation since. I even have them in my Habanos rubberdor that uses a cigar oasis. I only add water about once a month and humidity is always around 65%.

I'd rather be driving; either golf balls or my Dodge!

I've got to try some of those Climmax Beads. How much do I need for my 48qt. cooler, and what is the best thing to put them in (tupperware container, oasis, ???). Should they be stored at the top/bottom of the cooler, etc...

Yea I know... but no cracks on my "girly" 48qt... it's nowhere near full yet.

But feel free to send me whatever it takes to move up to the 120qt!!! (Mooch of the Month Nominee)

dwhale69,

Do a search in this room on Vern and the Climmax beads. He gave a formula for how many beads per cubic feet.

Even though I was having no trouble with oasis foam and 50/50, I switched to the beads because I wanted something that just used water. The guys are right. They hold humidity perfectly.

Joe, is it a Russian humidor? Perhaps you have gremlins from the Kremlin...

Metsfan, if you check the archives, I did an experiment last summer and found that putting ice in the 'dor will create just the situation you experienced. No, when you put cracked ice in the dor the humidity does NOT go up! It goes down - by a lot. That's because the cold surfaces are condensing the moisture from the air. What you saw was perfectly normal (from my experiences and from science).

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

Ummmm, Ross, Cracked Ice is a not frozen water. It's crystals you soak in water to act act as a humidifier.
