A 66 year old wommen tried to by a pack of cigarettes for her daughter while shopping at a local major chain drug store and was told by the clerk that she needed identifcation proving that she was over 18,not having a drivers license she was compelled to ask her 23 year old grandson to buy them.People standing in line were shaking thier heads in disbelief that the clerk was forbiding this women from purchasing cigarettes without identification proving her age.A company spokesman said the scrutiny was part of a new company policy enacted in July to card everyone, to ensure our stores are not selling tobacco to minors. The store policy on alcohol is to card anyone who looks younger than 27 according to the company spokesman. The company recently signed a voluntary agreement with the California State Attorney General's Office in an effort to reduce smoking by minors. The company apologized to the women and her husband for the inconvenience. but still intend to enforce the policy for everyone, NO ID NO TOBACCO.
Taken from our local news paper in Fremont Ca. ( It seams that it is easier by alcohol than tobacco ) |
