Outside walls
I'm a big fan of beads and am currently using the 65% RH version. The digital hygrometer in my cooler is solid at 66% until the beads start to dry out. I happened to move the cooler from one wall to the other in my bedroom. The RH steadily fell over the next few days, even with a little more distilled water for the beads. I said, "Enough!" when it hit 50%. The "new" wall was an outside wall here in scenic Cleveland, OH. I wondered if, even though the cooler wasn't against the wall, it was possible that the cool wall was dropping the temperature in the cooler enough to foul up the RH. Short answer seems to be YES. Moved the cooler back to it's original spot, and presto-chango, the RH went right back to 66%. After a couple of sticks, it doesn't seem the brief dry-out hurt my smokes. Close call for me, but FYI.
