Need some advice from you seasoned storage experts but I'm a bit intimidated after reading about cabinets and walk-ins.

I've overflowed both my humidor and tupperdor and have a box to store for a few weeks/months.

I took a few sticks out and put in a humistick and slipped the assembly into a gallon ziplock bag.

Should I prop the box open? Is that one humistick enough or should I add a homemade humidifier?

Any advice appreciated.

Chris

Sounds like you need a cooler! There are many people more qualified to talk coolers than me but I took an ice chest (large, seals well) and made a humidifier from a plastic container with agrosoak beads and placed it in the cooler with some left-over spanish cedar from cigar boxes. It works well for me. Good luck and welcome to the board.

You're right, a coolerdor looms in the near future. I think my baggiedor will work until then.

From scouring this forum, I see there's mixed opinions on lining with cedar.

What about propping lids open? and, are ALL cigar boxes Spanish cedar?

Your baggiedor is fine.

Most boxes are spanish cedar. You can tell by the smell. You want boxes that have not been varnished, that is, you want untreated or unsealed wood. Most slide lid boxes (SL are untreated. Just keep reading through the archives. Lots of information and opinions on coolers and how to humidify.

Propping the lid open will help air ciculation some. But bear in mind when we talk of aging we are speaking of 6 months to several years or longer. With that in mind, propping open the lid may not make that much of a difference. I usually go through everything and just look at the little beauties sleeping at least once a month. That's enough to get fresh air in and the bad air out.

Good luck.
