Coolidor questions/advice...

I am planning for when I eventually find a job (hopefully soon)...

I have a purchasing plan in place for cigars , I do not want to run out again , I plan on purchasing mainly the ones I know I like at first then maybe branch out..

I will over run my everyday Humi very quickly , it holds around 300 loose...

So , I am going to use a 120qt cooler... with 1lb of 65% HF Beads, I think that is about right...

1. Do I need to prop open the tops of cigar boxes

2. Should I install a fan that runs periodically

3. Any suggestions on a remote humidity/Temp sensors (preferably one that can support multiple sensors (read coolers))

4. I have read articles where people say line them with cedar etc... if the boxes are in there I cant imagine I would need to line the cooler with cedar...

TIA

No.

You can, but it may not be necessary.

I have one at home that I use with my Aristocrat. I can't remember the name right now. It works great. I'll try to post it later.

Don't bother.

TIA

My personal preference is several 48qt coolers instead of giant ones.
The 48s are easy to manage and they stack nicely in the closet.

Either way, don't spend extra for one that holds ice for a week.

I have many coolers. I have had many more. Beads, get into a routine of opening the lid. And relax. Just relax. You will learn the smell and feel of a humi that is right.

- Get 4 "48-50 quart" coolers High domed lids help, but are not required. Hinged lids, also not required.
- Beads or Gel jars work. YOu'll need fewer than you think.
- Xicar has bluetooth enabled monitoring / hygrometers, but as noted - not really necessary.

I have a bunch of coolers, each cooler has a digital hygrometer/thermometer attached to the inside lid. I pop off the lid and flip it over quickly to catch the reading. You could just lay the hygrometer on top of a piece of paper on the top of the cigars... whatever works for you.

If you have domed lids, you can get the Xikar circulating fan and attach that to the top. You will want to leave some little space between your stuff, or not. again, either method seems to work just fine.

I bought coolers for 19$ on sale from Dicks sporting goods just a couple years ago. They work perfectly well for this purpose. Just get ones that you can visually see have a full seal around the top.

Agree!

Close the lid on a dollar bill (or a $100 bill for that matter!) and try to pull it out. Do in several locations around the perimeter of the lid. If the bill slides out with little or no resistance the lid isn't sealing at that point.

Bingo. And go large or you will regret it.
I started a fun habit back in 1998 of buying two boxes, one to smoke, one to bury in the coolidor. I am now finding 1998-2001 Habanos that I forgot about. What a joy they are now.

What they all said.

Size is a matter of personal preference. Do you want to look at all of your cigars at once, or do you want to hunt through different boxes?

I got sick and tired of hunting through half empty boxes and chose to fill my Aristocrat Mini with 4 pullout drawers. Now all my cigars have easy access. The only cigars in boxes are sealed and stored below the drawers. Makes life so much easier.
