Benriach is offering their single malt aged in odd barrels - used barrels from dark drum, madiera, tawny port, etc.
At the recommendation of the scotch guy at Specs, I bought a bottle of the dark-rum-barrel aged scotch, and it is excellent.

One of my favourite distilleries of late.

Many of the releases are bottled at 46%ABV, and are non-chill-filtered to boot. I've tried the Madeira, Tawny Port and Pedro Ximénez Cask Finished 15 Year Olds (all very tasty), as well as the 10 Year Old Curiositas (rather heavily peated, but in a style quite distinct from the Islay whiskies) and 12 Year Old Aromaticus Fumosus (also peated but finished in Rum barrels). The 21 Year Old Authenticus (quite a bit more expensive, alas) is also reputed to be excellent.

Billy Walker and his team have done wonders to bring this former Seagram property (which issued, under that ownership, a rather mediocre 10 Year Old that was entirely forgetable) to the very forefront of distilleries in the region. And happily, the people at Benriach have recently taken over GlenDronach, too.
